We hope you plan to participate in this year’s Longhorn Alumni Band Day on November 13, 2021!  We will be playing Kansas on Saturday the 13th, at 6:30 pm.

We are looking forward to an in-person Longhorn Alumni Band Day this year! If you haven’t already done so, please start contacting your friends from your section and making arrangements to attend. The Alumni Band Day recruiting motto is “Tell a Friend, Bring a Friend.” Be a part of the fellowship, go to the game, and support the LHB halftime show.

We can’t wait to see everyone back on the 40 Acres!  #Hookem #BTHOOKU

This is exciting news. Thanks to Dr. Croomes, we are going to be featured in conjunction with the LHB halftime show. LHB is doing a special Veteran’s Day performance to honor all Veterans of our Military Services. At the end of their show, they will spell out a large block USA and hold there. At that point, the focus and cameras will switch to LHAB in our position in the upper deck. We will be live on the Jumbotron. Geof Sloan and JP Kirksey put together a wonderful media presentation to be shown on the Jumbotron and a script that will be read by Bob Cole about LHAB to share with the crowd. At a prescribed time in the script, we will perform March Grandioso led by our LHAB Conductor, Dr. Paula Crider.  When we finish Grandioso, LHB will perform Texas Fight and clear the field. We would ask a couple of things of you. Right before halftime, would you please ask family members that can to move and sit outside our ensemble? We will pull LHAB together a little tighter so that we look sharp on the Jumbotron. Also please remove your jacket for the time that we are featured so that we look uniformed in our vests.

Again, a big thanks to Dr. Croomes, Geof Sloan, and JP Kirksey for their creativity. What a unique way to share our pride and heritage with the UT Fans.

The LHAB business meeting and rehearsal will be in the area where LHB sits during football games near the southeast corner of the stands inside DKR Texas Memorial Stadium on Friday, November 12, from 7:00 until 9:00 pm. Use Gate 25 on the northeast side of the stadium to get there.

Here is the agenda for the business meeting.

You can register for Band Day anytime, but if you need to rent an instrument, flag or silk you need to do that by Friday morning.

Instrument check-out on Friday will be available from 5:30 to 6:30 at the UHaul truck which will be parked on the ramp near the Bertha doors. Instrument check-in will also be at the UHaul truck following rehearsal.

Pick up Guest tickets and Name Tag (self-written) at the tables near Gate 25.

We will not be allowed on the field!

We have a few alumni who will require assistance from the Speedway Garage to the Music Building. UT Athletics will run two golf carts from the Speedway Garage at the corner of Speedway and Dean Keaton.  There will be signage at the pick-up location and on the golf carts so LHAB members can recognize the ADA Shuttle service. NOTE: This service will only run between 2:30-3:30 pm pre-game only.

Anyone who requires assistance and will NOT be participating in the March Down may go directly to Gate 16 at the glass doors to the Hall of Honor as early as 3:30 pm. Your LHAB vest is your “ticket” in.  You will be met at the Gate by Matt Afflerbaugh and Joe Dahlstrom and their team of LHAB volunteers to escort you to the elevators and escort you to your seats.

If you paid your 2021-2022 dues, Band Day registration is FREE. We are waiving fees this year to encourage you to keep your membership current and to entice you to attend Band Day 2021. We know everyone looks forward to marching a halftime show, but with Covid hanging around we will enjoy marching into the stadium together and playing our tunes in the stands.

There will be NO storage of any kind on Saturday. Please leave anything you do not plan to bring into the stadium in your car or at home (including horn cases). There is a clear bag policy in effect in the stadium. Please plan accordingly.

Any LHAB member who needs to rent an instrument can on a first-come-first-served basis. Instrument rental will be $15. Please register in advance for instruments so we can have them ready for you.

Instrument check-out will take place on the lawn of the Music Building. Instruments may be checked out on Friday from 5:30 until 6:30 for those attending the rehearsal/business meeting inside the stadium, which begins at 7:00 pm. We will also check out instruments, Big Flags, and silks on Saturday from 2:30 pm until 3:30 pm.

LHAB and their guests are sitting in the north end zone upper deck. Athletics has allotted 1100 tickets to LHAB and its guests. Guest tickets are $25 per ticket.

Note that LHAB members can only purchase guest tickets through online registration. You may only purchase guest tickets until November 7.

LHAB’s guests will be allowed to follow our formation and enter the stadium behind us. Each family needs to plan accordingly.

If you are hesitant to register for Band Day due to LHAB being seated in the North End Zone, the elevator on the north end zone will be available to access the upper deck.

Please do not enter the Music Building at any time.  If you need a restroom on Saturday, please either use the Law School or the Porta Potties at the intersection of Trinity and Robert Dedman just east of the Music Building.

Be mindful of the fact that you’ll be wearing the LHAB uniform and if you drink, be responsible and respectful.

LHAB will check out Big Flags and Silks this year to those who choose to register for them and plan to march down with them to the stadium. There will be no rental fee this year since they’ll only be used during a march down. We’ll pass them out at the march down staging area and pick them back up before we enter the stadium. Big Flag and Silk members can choose to march down in the formation without a flag if they wish.

Tuba/Sousaphone and Horn/Mello players: please bring your mouthpieces! If you are renting a bell front marching baritone, make sure. you have a large shank mouthpiece.

Please understand as you prepare to bring your family and guests to Alumni Band Day that there are some policies that LHAB cannot change due to liability issues and UT Athletics policy. While we strive to maintain a great relationship with athletics and the university, we understand that these policies can be challenging for parents with small children.

  • Children are not allowed on the field.
  • Children are not allowed in the formation while marching to the stadium.

Thank you so much for understanding and adhering to these policies.

LHAB will not be providing any drinks or food, but individuals can purchase those at the stadium. Bring your credit card as the stadium is cashless!

Please remember that the official uniform for LHAB includes the following:

  1. Solid black socks and solid black shoes (tennis shoes are fine as long as they are entirely black).
  2. Solid black pants (slacks preferred).
  3. White collared shirt (either long-sleeved or short-sleeved depending on the weather and your comfort).

We will provide all LHAB members with a burnt orange vest at Band Day. You must be in full uniform to check one out (black shoes/socks/pants and white collared shirt). We will collect vests in the stands at the end of the game.

Please print your music in advance and bring your music with you to Band Day. LHAB Members can access music downloads via the LHAB Member Login. Please be prepared to play:

  • Calypso
  • Deep in the Heart of Texas
  • The Eyes of Texas
  • March Grandioso
  • March of the Longhorns
  • Rawhide
  • Texas Fight
  • UT Detroit
  • Victory
  • Wabash Cannonball
  • We Are the Champions

  • Yellow Rose of Texas

We will march down to the stadium to drum cadence and tunes but will stop when we arrive at Gate 25 as we enter and make our way to our seats.

Volunteers are needed to assist on Friday and Saturday. Please note your availability to help with Band Day when you register. We will contact you the week of Band Day with instructions.

We are ALL volunteers working to bring you an excellent band day. Your help is appreciated!!!

I agree to return the LHAB/LHB instrument and/or flag as required by the due date given at time of check-out by LHAB representative.

LHAB will make the appropriate repairs and adjustments to keep the instrument and/or flag in proper playing condition. This does not include the restoration of finish, willful damage, careless handling, cleanings or replacement of expendable accessories.
